Science, Nursing and Allied Health Renovations
Massasoit Community College, Canton, MA
Jones is working with DCAMM and Massasoit Community College on comprehensive renovations to the sciences, nursing, and allied health teaching, lab, and administrative programs on the Brockton campus. The study currently underway spans work in two existing buildings from the original 1970's era campus. A phased approach, designed to minimize swing space challenges, lines up renovations to each of the two buildings in sequence. The mission of the project as developed by MCC, DCAMM, and the design team strives to: Design an inclusive environment for the Allied Health and Science programs that is forward thinking, highly flexible, and unique to Massasoit Community College.
The project is currently in the design phase, completing programming and schematic design in Spring 2024. The programming phase consisted of a feedback process where each step was reviewed in detail and discussed with client stakeholders. The design team built on the collective understanding of the project to generate programming diagrams and tabulations. We’ve also designed a multi-phase engagement process to help build trust with the community and ultimately “design with” rather than “design for.” We started in the project’s study phase and conducted another round in schematic design using online surveys, in-person conversations via open houses, sticky notes, and yes/no votes. The result will be state of the art teaching and lab spaces for nursing, allied health, radiation tech, and general science courses. Improvements to deferred maintenance challenges such as envelope and roof are also under consideration, implementing decarbonization and sustainability goals outlined in the Commonwealth’s Executive Order 594.
This project is an investment of a $38M estimated construction cost and offer an opportunity to transform and modernize MCC. The scope comprises comprehensive renovations of two buildings totaling 56,000 GSF to support science, nursing and allied health and humanities programs. We are excited to partner with Studio Luz as a collaborating architect on this project.
