Grossman Commons Study
Cape Cod Community College, Barnstable, MA
A study completed for Cape Cod Community College included looking at program currently housed in two central campus buildings. The Nickerson Administration building currently houses 4C's admissions, financial aid, registrar and billing while the Grossman Commons currently houses advising, testing, as well as greatly underutilized meeting space for student groups.
The goal of the study was to rearrange, combine, and co-locate functions associated with enrollment, counselling, and advising to create a one-stop-shop for student success. The process began with cataloguing current and projected space needs for each department, identifying potential shared amenities and meeting space, and experimenting with beneficial adjacencies. Given the vintage of these buildings, built in 1969, several accessibility issues were identified and addressed with proposed building upgrades.
The result of the study offered greater space efficiency on campus, equal access to essential student services, and programs strengthened by co-locating with supporting peers.
