Bromfield Pearson Interior Renovation
Tufts University, Medford, Massachusetts
Jones work at Tufts University’s Bromfield Pearson Hall was broken up in to two distinctive phases of design and construction.
Phase One, which went into construction during Summer 2022, included the finish, fixtures, and technology refresh of six classrooms, an office, and the entry corridors of the Ground Floor of Bromfield Pearson. Jones worked with Tufts University to apply their square footage per student standards, and new furniture typologies to the existing classroom layouts to determine student count and optimal teaching wall configurations for each room.
Phase Two, which went into construction in Fall of 2022, followed substantial completion of the work in the classrooms downstairs. It included the renovation of the remainder of the building’s occupiable space. As part of this phase, Jones engaged Code Red to identify existing MAAB deficiencies in the building to addressed, as well as crafting a successful variance to allow for the integration of a new pitless limited use/limited application lift to between the Second and Third Floors of the building. It included the creation of seven new offices, three new kitchenettes, a new gender-neutral restroom, and flexible graduate study space.
GREEN FACTOR:
Reuse of materials such as classroom blackboards and existing doors. To minimize waste, and to address lead time concerns, the team salvaged all demolished doors, and field cut new vision kits in to approximately thirty office and corridor doors.
